Manchester United suffered their second straight defeat in the 2018-19 Premier League season following their 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday evening. Second half goals from Harry Kane and Lucas Moura ensured the Lilywhites maintained their 100% win run in the league season.

However, despite suffering their heaviest home defeat in all competitions since 2004, Jose Mourinho seems safe for now at the club. Dailymail reports that the Portuguese born tactician held a crucial meeting with the club's executive Ed Woodward and the positive was positive.

The club's executive vice chairman was said to have visited the team in the dressing room after the loss. Both Mourinho and Woodward then held a long chat which focused on what was an encouraging first-half performance from United before Spurs took over after the break. The Red Devils are now 13th on the log after just three games and they will face Burnley at the Turf Moor on Sunday.

Dailymail quoting Sportsmail revealed that some quarters in United's board are not comfortable with the club's disappointing performances so far this season. Mourinho is said to have the backing of the top executives of the club with the hope he can turn their fortunes around

They were encouraged by their first half performance where they were able to create a number of chances, but failed to bury them. While large sections of Old Trafford had emptied, many of those who remained in the Stretford End chanted Mourinho's name at the final whistle. However, the team's results will determine the future of Mourinho stays at Old Trafford, but they must win away from home against Burnley.

What Mourinho's show of braggadocio will mean to United supporters fed up of sub-standard performances under his management is open to debate. But the United manager also issued a call to arms to the Stretford End after making his way over to the home fans to applaud them at the end.

United were indeed the better team in the first half but fell apart once Harry Kane gave Tottenham the lead early in the second period.

Mourinho started the game with a back three that including midfielder Ander Herrera. And it was when he was asked if he knew what his best defence was that Mourinho's post-match mood turned sour.
