The perfect midfield partner? Paul
Pogba rates Fred’s Manchester United debut
Paul Pogba has lauded summer signing Fred and believes the two can forge a strong partnership in central midfield after the Brazilian made his debut for Manchester United.
Despite only training together for a
few days – with Pogba returning to Carrington on Monday after his exploits at
the World Cup – the two players lined up together in Friday’s 2-1 victory over
Leicester City. Pogba got the side off to the perfect start, netting from the
penalty spot inside three minutes, while Luke Shaw netted the decisive second
goal late on.
Although Pogba admits there is still plenty for both he and Fred – as well as youngster Andreas Pereira – to work on, he is happy with their first outing together and the potential their partnership possesses. Asked about his link up with Fred, Pogba told Sky Sports: ‘We started OK. I wouldn’t say it was the best game, but obviously it’s normal.
‘We just started to play together, we
started training together, I can feel he is a very, very good player, I know he
will really help us. ‘And with Andreas as well, very young, he showed his
ability today. ‘But to be honest I feel very comfortable with [Fred] and with
the rest of the other centre mids. I feel we will be very happy with Fred this
season.’
