OMG: Man City Star De Bruyne out for three months with serious knee injury
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is set for a lengthy stint on the
sidelines after injuring his knee in training today, We understands.
The Belgian is set to
undergo a scan tomorrow, where it is expected to reveal ligament damage that is
likely to keep him out for over two months. The 27-year-old came on for the
final 30 minutes in City’s 2-0 win against Arsenal on the opening weekend last
Sunday and cut short his holiday in a bid to play against the Gunners.
We understands De
Bruyne caught his studs in the turf and did not suffer the injury in a
challenge with one of his team-mates. The Belgian left training on crutches
and the club will discuss sending the Belgian to Catalan doctor Ramon
Cugat, who Guardiola has leaned on in the past.
City have a favourable fixture list in the next month or so but face the likes of Spurs and Liverpool in October. Bernardo Silva started and scored in the win against Arsenal and the Portugal international could remain a starter in De Bruyne’s absence.
Pep Guardiola has admitted the return to fitness of Benjamin
Mendy affords him the chance of playing a 3-5-2 and that would allow Gabriel
Jesus and Sergio Aguero to play together while the Belgian is out. City face
Huddersfield at home on Sunday.
