OMG: See Fred reveals who convinced him to join Manchester United
Manchester United signing Fred has revealed how Gilberto Silva helped convince him to reject the advances of Manchester City this summer. Fred joined the Red Devils for a fee of around £52million back in June but City had also been circling for some time, with Pep Guardiola an avid admirer of the 25-year-old Brazil international.
The
former Shakhtar Donetsk man made his Premier League debut for United in a
2-1 victory over Leicester on Friday night and impressed in midfield alongside
Paul Pogba and Andreas Pereira. However, it appears Fred could have been
playing for United’s noisy neighbours this season had it not been for the
intervention of his agent, the Arsenal legend Gilberto.
Germany retirement ‘There were options in England and in
Europe,’ Fred told ESPN during pre-season. ‘Manchester City, Paris
Saint-Germain, but I chose United. I spoke to my agent Gilberto Silva, who
played for Arsenal.

my family and friends. When I said United, I saw their faces. I’m sure that I
made the right choice. ‘I want to play in and win the Premier League, the best
league in the world.
‘I had a proposal from China too, but I didn’t want to go
there because I wanted to join United.’ Paul Pogba has been impressed with
Fred’s start at United (Picture: Getty) Pogba is predicting big things from
United’s midfield this term after Fred’s performance versus Leicester.
‘We started OK. I wouldn’t say it was the best game, but
obviously it’s normal,’ Pogba told Sky Sports. ‘We just started to play
together, we started training together, I can feel he is a very, very good
player, I know he will really help us.
