See what Pogba told Mourinho before he played the penalty
Man
Utd player Paul Pogba converted his third penalty of the season vs Young Boys
after being urged to step up by Jose Mourinho and his team-mates.
Paul
Pogba has thanked Jose Mourinho and his United team-mates for letting him take
his penalty against Young Boys following his previous miss at Burnley earlier
this month.
After
opening the scoring with a sublime finish 10 minutes before half-time, the
Frenchman stepped up from the spot to score United’s second goal at the Stade de Suisse.
Jose Mourinho previously described Paul Pogba as a 'very good penalty taker' and refused to blame him for his
miss against Burnley, when Joe Hart easily saved his spot-kick. And his faith
was rewarded in Bern.
Pogba has
now converted three penalties this season - against Leicester, Brighton and
Young Boys - with his trademark staggered run-up and was understandably
delighted with his latest effort.
"I
had no doubt about taking the penalty," he told MUTV.
"I
know I missed that one. I told him Joe Hart got me this time but I won't do the
same mistake but no I have the confidence as well of the players and they let
me take it as well so I should thank them for this as well, for the manager, he
let me take it as well so the most important thing is to put the ball in so
that's what happened so I am happy."
United
did not have it all their own way in the first half hour and, roared on by
their ultras, Young Boys caused them some problems with their speed on the
break.
But
Pogba's opener changed the game and United never looked in danger of being
pegged back, as the midfielder acknowledged himself.
"We
were not in trouble but they were more aggressive, winning the second ball and
stuff like that," he added. "They were there - they put the foot in.
"To score this goal was a bit of a breakdown for them so
they didn't expect it and which was good for us, for our confidence, and after
we score the second one we make the difference like this. Maybe it's the
experience. Individually we did great as well."
