OMG: De Gea wins Man U Player Sir Matt Busby year award beat Ronaldo for a Record
Manchester
United goalkeeper David De Gea won the club’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the
Year award for the fourth time in five years at a ceremony at Old Trafford on
Tuesday night.
The Spaniard was voted the club’s outstanding
player of the 17/18 season by his team-mates after keeping 17 clean sheets in
34 Premier League games
this term – a ratio of 1 in 2.
De Gea won the award three years on the bounce
between 2014-2017 but Ander Herrera ended his run last year.
The 27-year-old was tied with Cristiano Ronaldo on three
wins before tonight but his award means he’s now won the prize more times than
any other player in the club’s history.
De Gea, who also won the players’ player of the
year, was understandably delighted with the award. ‘It’s difficult to say in
words what United means to me,’ said De Gea. ‘It’s amazing to play for this
club, the history, the fans. It was hard in the beginning, I trained hard, I’m
proud of myself.’
