Sad News: Man United without 5 players against Bristol City clash
Manchester United could be without five first-team players when
they take on Bristol City in the League Cup quarter-final at Ashton Gate. The
Red Devils have secured comfortable wins over Burton Albion and Swansea City in
the previous rounds, but Mourinho is still expected to name a strong-looking
lineup with the hosts in a good run of form in the Championship.
Speaking in the lead-up to the Bristol game, Mourinho confirmed that Nemanja Matic is likely to miss
out on the matchday squad as he continues to recover from a minor leg problem.
Aside from this, Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly are expected to play no part
at the back after incurring hamstring and ankle injuries respectively.
Likewise, United have been hampered in the midfield department
with Marouane Fellaini yet to overcome his knee problem whilst Michael Carrick
has not featured for nearly three months as he continues to step up his fitness
after a procedure for an irregular heart rhythm earlier in the campaign.
Mourinho has hinted that he is unlikely to make wholesale changes
for the encounter, and this could see the likes of Anthony Martial feature in
the attack front whilst Paul Pogba should make the starting lineup after his
three-game domestic ban.
